The lie that holiness is for others
The greatest obstacle to holiness is believing it is not for you. The second obstacle is "I don't have time." Write prayer in ink; everything else in pencil.
Dan Burke identifies two great lies that prevent spiritual growth. The first: "Holiness is not for me — it's for special people." This belief keeps countless souls in the outer rooms of Teresa's castle, never venturing inward because they believe the inner chambers are reserved for others. The second lie: "I don't have time for prayer." Burke's response is the ink-vs-pencil principle: write your prayer time in ink on your schedule; write everything else in pencil. If something has to give, it should never be prayer. Burke uses the Tiffany lamp analogy: each person is a priceless work of art, unique and unrepeatable. God wants to illuminate you from within. But if you never sit before the Light, the lamp remains dark. Prayer is how the Light gets in.

T4.G.008 (De fide (defined dogma)): God sincerely wills the salvation of all human beings. There is a universal salvific will in God which extends sufficient grace to all, including sinners and unbelievers.
- Scripture: Who will have all men to be saved, and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
- Aquinas: God wills all men to be saved by His antecedent will, which is not simply the will, but the will in a certain respect.
- Fathers: God wills all men to be saved; but not so as to take away their free will.
T4.S.010 (De fide (defined dogma)): Baptism is the sacrament of spiritual regeneration by which a person is incorporated into Christ and His Church, receives the remission of all sins (both original and personal), and is made a new creature through the infusion of sanctifying grace.
- Scripture: Amen, amen I say to thee, unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
Aquinas: Baptism is a certain spiritual regeneration, whereby a man dies to the old life, and begins to lead the new life.
Fathers: Baptism is God's most beautiful and magnificent gift... We call it gift, grace, anointing, enlightenment, garment of immortality, bath of regeneration, seal, and most precious gift.
